Welcome to Pregnancy after Preemie, a blog I created to document and share my pregnancy journey after the birth of my daughter at 24 weeks gestation.

I no longer actively post on this blog, however invite you to read through past posts to learn more about my decision to have a pre-pregnancy Transabdominal Cerclage (TAC) placed along with the anxieties that riddled my second pregnancy (after giving birth to a micropreemie). I have documented my entire pregnancy and want the world to know that there is hope to carry near term after the birth of a very premature baby.

As an update to my story, my son Henry is now almost 14 months old. The experience of having a near-term preemie is vastly different from having a micropreemie. I was able to breastfeed Henry exclusively for the first six months of his life. I was able to continue breastfeeding until just recently, and enjoyed every moment of it!

Henry has met all of his milestones thus far without any interventions. He was walking by his first birthday and has opened my eyes to just how delayed my once 1lb 6 oz 24-weeker was.

I have recently launched a new website: http://www.thepreemielife.com/. Please stop by to visit!

Thanks for the update! I have followed your blog, and found it very helpful as I was deciding whether to go through another pregnancy. I am now 22 weeks, and doing great. I am happy to see that your children are so happy and healthy!

I, too, gave birth to micropreemies. 24 weekers. 1.5 pounds each. One of my babies didn't survive. My other baby is healthy and thriving. Your statement is perfect...like you say, he too deserves to share this life with a sibling! I can't wait to read your blog....you are already a source of inspiration!

Thanks for this! Circumstances are different, but I appreciate reading another tale of pregnancy after a difficult pregnancy.

My first pregnancy was pretty straightforward, but my second was twins and our daughter died in-utero just past 24 weeks, I spend almost six weeks on hospital bedrest and then they were born at 29&6 and our son spend the next 53 days in the NICU. A pretty easy talk in the arena of preemies.

I actually had decided that I wasn't psychologically up to the challenge of another pregnancy, but got pregnant with a second set of twins with a Mirena IUD in place and so have to up to it :-). I'm 11 weeks and change now and going pretty well, but reading stories of others helps.

Thanks!
